1 × 9x13 glass baking dish
1 × Saucepan (medium size)
1 × Large mixing bowl
Measuring cups and spoons
- 5 medium peaches peeled, pitted, and sliced (about 4 cups) (or 600–700 g)
- ¾ cup granulated sugar 150 g
- ¼ teaspoon salt
For the batter:
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter 85 g
- 1 cup all-purpose flour 120 g
- 1 cup granulated sugar 200 g
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¾ cup milk 180 ml
- Ground cinnamon for sprinkling
Prepare the Peach Mixture: Place the sliced fresh peaches in a medium saucepan along with the granulated sugar and salt. Stir well to combine. Warm over medium heat just until the sugar dissolves and the peaches begin to release their natural juices, about 3–5 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside. (If using canned peaches, skip this step and proceed to Step 3 using the peaches and syrup directly.)
Preheat and Melt Butter: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Cut the butter into small pieces and arrange them evenly in a 9x13-inch glass baking dish. Place the dish in the oven while it preheats so the butter can melt completely. Once melted, carefully remove the dish from the oven.
Make the Batter: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until combined. Pour in the milk and stir gently until the batter is just blended, avoiding overmixing.
Assemble the Cobbler: Pour the batter over the melted butter in the baking dish, spreading it evenly. Spoon the warm peaches along with their juices (or canned peaches with syrup) evenly over the batter. Generously sprinkle ground cinnamon on top for extra flavor.
Bake to Perfection: Place the dish in the oven and bake for 38 to 40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the batter has cooked through. The peach juices should be bubbling around the edges.
Serve Warm: Allow the cobbler to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy it warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an indulgent touch.
- Canned Peach Substitute: Use one quart jar of canned peaches (undrained) if fresh peaches are unavailable. This makes the recipe easy to enjoy year-round.
- Gluten-Free Option: Swap regular flour with a gluten-free blend such as Cup4Cup or King Arthur Measure for Measure for similar texture and rise.
- Sugar Adjustment: For a less sweet dessert, reduce the sugar in the batter or peaches by 1/4 cup.
- Storage: Store leftover cobbler covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave before serving.
- Serving Suggestions: Pair with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or a sprinkle of chopped nuts for added texture.
