- 1 ½ tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 1 ½ tablespoons fat-free mayonnaise
- ½ teaspoon dried tarragon leaves
- 8 slices sourdough bread
- 8 ounces oven-roasted turkey breast thinly sliced (preferably from deli)
- 8 slices Swiss cheese
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
Prepare the Flavorful Spread: In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the Dijon mustard, fat-free mayonnaise, and dried tarragon leaves until well combined. This zesty spread will add a bright, herby layer of flavor to the sandwich. Assemble the Sandwich Layers: Lay out four slices of sourdough bread on a clean surface. Evenly spread the mustard mixture on one side of each slice. On top of the spread, layer two slices of Swiss cheese and a generous portion of the oven-roasted turkey breast. Then cover each with the remaining slices of bread, spread side down, creating four sandwiches. Heat the Skillet and Melt Butter: Place a nonstick skillet over medium heat and add the butter. Allow it to melt completely and start to bubble slightly—this will ensure a crispy, golden exterior on the bread.
Cook the Sandwiches to Perfection: Carefully transfer two sandwiches at a time to the skillet. Cook for about 3 minutes on the first side, pressing gently with a spatula to help the cheese melt evenly. Flip the sandwiches and cook for an additional 3 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted through. Serve Warm and Enjoy: Remove the sandwiches from the skillet and let them rest for a minute before slicing. Serve immediately to enjoy the warm, melty cheese and savory turkey with every bite.
- For a richer flavor, consider using whole butter instead of unsalted.
- If you prefer a different cheese, Gruyère or provolone make excellent substitutes.
- To reduce sodium, opt for low-sodium turkey breast and Swiss cheese varieties.
- This sandwich is best enjoyed fresh but can be wrapped and refrigerated for up to 24 hours; reheat in a skillet or toaster oven for best results.
- Adding fresh spinach or tomato slices inside the sandwich before grilling can add a refreshing twist.
